🛶 About the Event

Hosted in partnership with the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority (GBRA) and the Gonzales Chamber of Commerce, the Come and Take It Canoe Race is one of the most thrilling and scenic traditions of the weekend. Paddlers of all skill levels — from solo racers to families with kids — are invited to tackle this 13-mile downriver challenge on the Guadalupe.

Racers begin just below the H-5 dam at Lake Wood Park and finish at Santa Anna’s Ford, near the US 183 bridge in Independence Park, after navigating a dynamic stretch of river featuring one mandatory portage and classic Texas beauty along the banks.

From competitive divisions to recreational floats, the race draws a mix of serious competitors and families just in it for the ride. Everyone is welcome — and everyone gets lunch at the finish line!
